Louisiana State Climatologist Jay Grymes said, “There is still a great deal of uncertainty as to what this system will do and where it will go. Some of the latest guidance indicates a very good chance that this system will make its way into the southeastern Gulf as early as Saturday evening.  However, it is too soon to become overly concerned about any local threats at this time.”

“This system is a good reminder on the importance of staying prepared and finalizing your emergency plans, “said GOHSEP Director Jacques Thibodeaux. “We are approaching a window often referred to as the peak of hurricane season. It is important for you to keep your emergency supplies stocked and determine where you would go if evacuation orders are issued by your local officials. Check out GetAGamePlan.org for help with these steps.”

Other hurricane preparedness steps include conducting an insurance checkup to determine if you have adequate coverage, creating a communication plan to help you stay connected with family members and planning for potential power loss associated with a tropical event.
