State Monitoring Tropical Storm Edouard
August 4,
2008
Baton Rouge
– The Governor’s Office
of Homeland Security and
Emergency Preparedness
(GOHSEP) is working with
other State and Local
agencies as Tropical
Storm Edouard makes
travels west along the
Louisiana coast. GOHSEP
has activated its
Emergency Operations
Center (EOC) and has
representatives from
select state agencies on
hand who can assist
parishes that need
assistance.
“GOHSEP has been
tracking this storm
since Friday evening and
has had a series of
conference calls with
parishes that could be
impacted by this storm.
GOHSEP is also in
constant communication
with the National
Weather Service. We
would also like to take
this opportunity to
remind people to be
prepared in the event a
storm hits,” said Mark
Cooper, GOHSEP Director.
Several parishes
including Cameron,
Calcasieu and Vermillion
are filing for a State
of Emergency Declaration
as a precautionary
measure.
Cameron Parish is
ordering a voluntary
evacuation in the lower
portion of the parish.
It is recommended for
those who live in travel
trailers and mobile
homes because of the
potential for high
winds.
Calcasieu Parish
officials say they are
prepared to assist in
sheltering those who
evacuate.
