The state Department of
Natural Resources is
working on a database of
information on fuel
suppliers (operating gas
stations) in the state
so that in the case of a
hurricane or other
disaster, the public
will know where to
locate and purchase
fuel. Subsequently, the
state would be in a
better position to help
get fuel to gas stations
during evacuations or
upon return of people of
an evacuated area. This
will benefit evacuating
and returning residents
who need fuel, as well
as fuel stations in need
of fuel to get their
businesses up and
running. The information
will also be used to
advise evacuees and
others of which stations
are open and have fuel
during and after
emergencies.
DNR is asking Parish
EOCs to help in reaching
out to all operating gas
stations in their
respective parishes.
If all parishes were to
make links available on
their websites and reach
out directly to stations
where possible, it may
encourage more fuel
operators to
participate, therefore
expanding the listing by
a far greater margin.
DNR has future plans to
prepare an announcement
(News Release) that will
explain the program and
bring awareness to these
efforts. We wanted
first, though, to reach
the local communities
through contact with the
Parish EOCs in getting
the word out and
generating more
participation.
