First Responder Subcommittee

The First Responder Subcommittee was created as a subcommittee under the Unified Command Group (UCG) in March 2008 as part of the authority of the Louisiana Homeland Security and Emergency Assistance and Disaster Act (Louisiana Disaster Act). The UCG is the State’s strategic decision-making body for emergency and disaster response and is comprised of emergency response professionals.

The subcommittee discusses and provides solutions to issues that arise in the emergency management disciplines of law enforcement (LE), fire service, emergency medical service (EMS), and information/intelligence gathering and dissemination.

Duties

The task of the Subcommittee is to provide planning and advise on issues identified by GOHSEP and UCG.

The Subcommittee establishes advisory subcommittees for specific issues when required and produces a semi-annual report to the Governor and UCG.

Membership

Members are chosen amongst their peers from throughout the State and across emergency management disciplines to represent them in all response issues. The chair of the Subcommittee is appointed by the Director of GOHSEP, and all remaining officers are elected by and from the membership of the Subcommittee.

The First Responder Subcommittee has two (2) working groups:

  • Homeland Security Grants
  • All Hazards Incident Management Team (AHIMT)
