Bridge Accident Forces Closure of LA 77

BATON ROUGE (June 6, 2024) The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has closed the drawbridge along LA 77 between Grosse Tete and Plaquemine in Iberville Parish to  traffic until further notice. The bridge was damaged by a vessel on the Port Allen Lock this morning at approximately 5:30 and will remain closed until further notice. Regional representatives from the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP) are working with local officials to address any potential resources needed for this event.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the accident. No injuries have been reported.

Motorists should use an alternate route to bypass the closure.

Motorists are encouraged to check the status of road conditions prior to beginning their commutes by utilizing the following resources:

  • 511 traveler information: Travelers can find information regarding road closures by visiting the 511 traveler information website at www.511la.org or by dialing 511 from their telephone and saying the route or region about which they are seeking information. Motorists can also download the Louisiana 511 mobile app.
