Baton Rouge (January 13, 2025) - Governor Jeff Landry announced today that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved near $44.5 million in recovery money Terrebonne General Medical Center. Hurricane Ida’s high winds, heavy rain, and flooding, resulted in severe damages to the facility. The Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP) has worked with local, state and federal emergency partners to secure the recovery funding through FEMA’s Public Assistance program.
“This is a great step for Terrebonne General and the population it serves,” said Governor Landry. “Recovery from an event like Hurricane Ida can take an extremely long time. The effort to secure this funding shows our resiliency after a disaster. We will continue to help build back stronger and protect the people of Louisiana.”
This award provides $44,404,553.79 in federal funding to the Terrebonne General Medical Center LHA for permanent repairs as a result of FEMA-DR-4611-LA (Hurricane Ida). This funding is authorized under Section 406 of the Robert T. Stafford Act.
Damage to the medical center buildings include the roofing systems, windows and equipment on the roof. Also, water infiltration damaged ceilings, walls, doors, floors, lighting, ductwork, insulation, electrical, mechanical, CCTV, communication, and fire alarm systems, utilities outlet and interior equipment. A hazard mitigation proposal (HMP) is included in this project to prevent future damage to the roofing systems.
GOHSEP Director Jacques Thibodeaux said, “When Hurricane Ida roared ashore as a strong Category 4 system, it left an incredible path of destruction. The city of Houma, Terrebonne General and all of our emergency partners have worked hard to recover and become more resilient.”
Louisiana Surgeon General Ralph Abraham said, “Our medical facilities have always stood ready to face any challenge or disaster and provide medical services when it counted the most. It is critical we continue to help these facilities navigate the recovery process so they can continue to provide excellent care to their communities.”
