Update concerning the potential for tropical cyclone development

Here is an update concerning the potential for tropical cyclone development in the southwest Gulf later this week.

Changes from previous update:  

• The chance of development over the next 2 to 7 days has increased.

Overview:

There is a MEDIUM (60%) chance of tropical cyclone development over the next 2 days.  

There is a HIGH (80%) chance of tropical cyclone development over the next 7 days.  

• An area of low pressure in the southwest Gulf could gradually develop into a tropical depression later this week while it drifts east and then northward. Timing and extent of any impacts remains uncertain.

Confidence:

• Since this system has not yet developed, there is low confidence in the forecast impacts for our local area.

Impacts:

• It is too soon to say exactly what impacts this system could have on the local area as impacts are still at least 4 days out. It should continue to be monitored.
