Louisiana’s State Hazard Mitigation Plan (SHMP) was approved by FEMA on March 21, 2024. The 2024 SHMP update to the previous State Plan continues to build on Louisiana's commitment creating stronger, more resilient communities through hazard mitigation activities. The State of Louisiana's vision was to produce a hazard mitigation plan that is informative, educational and easy to read.
As a requirement of the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 (DMA 2000), the State of Louisiana in order to receive federal funds for the following disaster assistance grant programs: Public Assistance (PA)--Category C through G, Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG), Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP),Pre Disaster Mitigation(PDM) and Flood Mitigation Assistance(FMA) must have an all hazard mitigation plan in place.
